King Stairs Software has a simple (and we think very fair) policy for handling updates and upgrades.
A major upgrade is defined as a release with a different major version number, such as 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc.
If you hold valid license to any earlier release of a product, you may upgrade that license for 50% of the current full license fee.
If you wish to upgrade a site license, you must upgrade all copies at once; you cannot upgrade just 10 licenses if you hold a 15-user license.
A minor update is defined as a release with the same major version number, but the minor or patch number have increased; for example, if 2.0.0 is the major upgrade, then 2.0.1, 2.1.0, 2.2.0, etc are all minor updates of 2.0.0.
Minor updates are free to all users holding a license for the product’s major release. If you have a license for version 1.2.0 of a product, you can update to any 1.x.x version, but you cannot update to a 2.x.x version (you will need an upgrade for that).
Free Upgrade Policy
If you purchased a license for a King Stairs Software product within three (3) months of a major upgrade for that product, then you are eligible for a free upgrade.
If the upgrade is formally announced before it is actually released, then the free period is counted from that announcement date. For example, if an upgrade is announced on 1st April but is not actually available until 15th April, all users who ordered on/after 1st January (3 months before 1st April) are eligible for a free upgrade.
Please note the relevant date here is the date you purchased the previous release; duplicate license requests do not count. Proof of purchase may be required.
If you received a product license for free (eg a press copy, special offer, or free upgrade), that license is generally not eligible for a free or discounted upgrade; different offers may have different eligibility rules, so please contact us.
Eligibility for any upgrade program (free, discounted, or otherwise) is determined solely by King Stairs Software.
